At the beginning of the 1950s, cooperative groups for milk collection were established in Emilia Romagna in order to create a great force with a new identity, capable of contrasting that of the intermediaries. In 1957 in Granarolo dell’Emilia (Bologna) the “Bolognese Milk Producers Consortium” was born, soon known to all as “Granarolo”, one of the first experiences of producers involved not only in the collection but also in the transformation and marketing of milk.

In 1960 the first logo depicted the letter “g” enriched by the hair and braids of a little girl drinking a glass of milk; the logo was inscribed in a blue rectangle. This logo appeared both on glass bottles, a novelty at the time compared to milk sold in bulk, and on pyramid-shaped bags that allowed space savings.

In 1970 another cooperative was born: Felsinea Latte; the latter had its own brand consisting of a white cow on a red background. In 1972 the “Granarolo Felsinea” consortium was created, the result of the merger between the two cooperatives and the two logos, at first, coexisted separately and then jointly; in the latter combination, the gestural features were eliminated in the letter “g”.

In 1982 the unitary consortium decided to adopt only the Granarolo logo while in 1989 the logo was placed in positive and composed in Gill. In those years, modernization and dimensional growth were thought of so as to allow, in 1991 and first in Italy, the production of “high quality” milk.

In 2000 the company changed its official name, from “Granarolo Felsinea” to “Granarolo”, and entrusted Landor Associates with the restyling of the logo which presents a dynamic, lively and colorful sign in which the logo lives in the traditional blue color. The previous logo has been deliberately preserved and positioned as a guarantee seal.

In 2016 the Granarolo logo returns to being that of 1964 with the attenuation of anthropomorphic features.
